Be Helpful Through Service
“Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28
This week’s challenge is to be more like Christ through service. What does it mean to minister? What is the spiritual objective of service?
To minister is to attend to or to care for those in need whether they know they have the need or not. It is to provide food, clothing, or shelter. Often we view these things from a temporal prospective but that limits the scope of what God desires to do.
Christ ministers to us spiritually. He covers us with spiritual garments and provides refuge for us in the spiritual kingdom of God. Therefore, as his ambassadors, we are to minister to others in like manner. We are to break them out of spiritual prisons, clothe them in the garments of Christ and feed them the word of the Lord.
The objective of ministering, according to the example of Christ, is to cause the enemy to flee. Service drives the enemy away. It causes him to flee from our midst because it harasses him.
However, when we exalt ourselves or “lord” over others it allows the enemy to move in and secure territory which belongs to the Lord our God. Although service is warfare, it should be done with a heart of love and not one of hostility.
This week seek opportunities to serve others. How can you give them spiritual food? Or clothe them in the garments of Christ? Or offer them shelter in the kingdom of heaven?
* Encourage others with yours by sharing your experience.
