Pray for Leaders

“For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” 1 Timothy 2:2

As believers, we are to pray for those who are in authority over us. This can be challenging at times. It is easy to pray for those we like or with whom we have similar philosophical beliefs, but it becomes more difficult when the individual is morally corrupt, ethically bankrupt, or socially inappropriate.

1 Timothy 2:2 is a command which challenges us at the very core of our being. Will we pray for that supervisor who has made it his or her mission to torment us at every opportunity? Will we pray for that parent who never has a kind word to say about us? Will we pray for the pastor who constantly abuses his or her sheep? Or that manager that acts as if he is better than and more superior than you?

When we obey the words of Paul, we are fashioning ourselves to operate on a higher level than those who are in authority. When we lift them up in prayer, we are taking our kingdom position that is above the earth and is not limited or confined by time and space.

The real question is do we know our rightful position? If we do then we ought to be willing to pray for all those in authority and not just those who are pleasant towards us.

This week’s challenge is to ask God to influence and guide those who are in authority.

*Remember to share your testimony!
