Arise from Lowlands
“And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee: But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.” Exodus 34:10-16
Canaanite people were descendants of Canaan that means “lowland.” The Hebrew meaning of Canaanite is zealous. The root meaning is to be humbled or subdued. From this, we can get a picture of the nature of a Canaanite it is one who follows the low nature of man with zeal.
A Canaanite “shuts off” his mind and is guided and governed by raw emotion and earthly passions. If left unchecked nothing will be enough to satisfy the appetites of a Canaanite. It is an addictive spirit in that its appetite continually grows. It is for this reason that the Canaanite nature that must be subdued or humbled or else it will become our master (2 Peter 2:19).
The constant barrage of attack can lead to mental depression, financial ruin, and health degradation, social isolation, diminishing of faith, and eventually separation from God because we will become as waves tossed in the sea for there is no wisdom in emotionalism (James 1:6).
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” Romans 6:16
How to Overthrow the Canaanite Spirit

Ask God for wisdom
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” James 1:5

Accept the sound mind of Christ
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:5

Pray about everything
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” Ephesians 6:18

Confess and be healed
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16
Challenge
Your challenge should you decide to take it is to identify those areas where you have operated as a Canaanite or have allowed the Canaanite spirit to rule you. With the help of Holy Spirit, place your emotions under subjection to the spirit.
