Speak Truth in Love

“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:” Ephesians 4:15

Speaking the truth in love is a formidable challenge to many in the body of Christ today for a multitude of reasons. The spirit of emotional sensitivity has high-jacked many and causes them to view correction or firm counsel as criticism.

The spirit of harshness has infiltrated the ranks of the body of Christ and causes members to speak with a vicious tongue in order to wound rather than to build up fellow members with the love of Christ.

The spirit of political correctness influences members to say what is socially acceptable, but not necessarily, what is true.  The spirit of ignorance is also at work within our ranks, for it keeps us ignorant of what true love is, and the awesome power of the love of Christ.

When we speak with the spirit of love, we will witness growth. When was the last time you saw growth in those around you? In yourself? If your words do not lead to maturity or fruitful abundance then you are not effectively using truth in love.

This week’s challenge is to examine your life to see if any of the mentioned spirits are at work in your communication or life. Seek God to reveal any others that may be influencing or controlling the words that you speak. Seek Holy Spirits help to speak truth in love. Ask him to cause those you speak to mature and grow. Ask to see growth in your own life.
