Challenge Day 2

“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” Matthew 12:36

Today it is evident that people are not as cautious with their words as they once were. Words which were never uttered in public are now common on television programs, movies, in print, on stage and in our conversations.

What would happen if Christ were to suddenly appear as we talked with a friend or a relative would he be pleased with the things that we joke about? The substance or tone of our conversation?

According to Matthew 12:36, we will have to give an account of every idle word that we speak. This indicates that a detailed record is being kept of our conversations! Will we be pleased to have the account of our conversations played back to us? Will we be proud when our idle thoughts (self-conversations) are exposed?

If we will not be proud of them maybe, it is time to change them.

Step 1

Take time to reflect on several of the conversations that you have had during the last week are there things that you wish you had not said? Comments that you wish you had not made?

Step 2

Make a list of all the things that you regret saying. Present them before the Lord. If possible, why not go to the person and reconcile with them. Confessing your sin and asking them to forgive you.

Step 3

Try to find an accountable buddy. Someone who you can encourage and who will encourage you to guard your words. This will enable you to sharpen them as they help sharpen you.

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17
